FILM DOKUMENTALNY DOROTY KANI
Andrzej Bobola. "A saint feared by Moscow" is a documentary about the extraordinary story of a Jesuit who traversed the eastern lands of the Commonwealth in the 17th century. He preached the Gospel to both Catholics and Orthodox Christians. He did not renounce his faith or Polish identity—and he sealed his mission with a martyr's death at the hands of the Cossacks.
For centuries, he remained forgotten until—according to accounts—he himself sought remembrance through revelations. In the 20th century, his body fell into the hands of the Bolsheviks. According to tradition, this was Moscow's revenge, which considered Bobola the patron of the Polish victory in 1920. In the face of mortal danger, the nation prayed for his intercession, and Piłsudski was said to have remarked that this victory was also achieved thanks to him.
A separate chapter concerns the efforts of Pope Pius XI and the Jesuits to bring Bobola's relics back to Poland. It was a daring mission, carried out at a time when many clergymen were dying in Soviet prisons and labor camps. As a result, his body became a symbol of hope and spiritual strength for the nation.
The film is also a story about Father Józef Niżnik, the custodian from Strachocina, who, as a witness to the revelations, became an tireless promoter of the saint's cult. The fate of Andrzej Bobola—full of dramatic twists and symbolism—seems to be still unfinished. In the tradition associated with his cult, there is a prophecy that only when he is proclaimed the main patron of Poland will the country enter a time of spiritual and material flourishing. This is a story that continues and raises questions about the future of St. Andrzej in the fate of the nation and Europe.
